Chinese Export lacquered wooden tea chest

BOSTON TEA PARTY TEA CHEST

IDENTICAL TO A BOX IN THE DAR Museum, Washington, D.C.

described as on loan from the

Boston Tea Party Chapter, DAR.

A similar example was at Skinner of Boston in 2005.

This one is now mounted on a later custom stand in the

Chinese Chippendale manner.

The decoration is black on a red ground, the front decorated with courtly figures in a landscape, the top and sides embellished with fruit , butterflies, and flowers, Greek key pattern borders.

 

Excellent condition with no losses and original paper lining.
